Abstract
This chapter provides a thorough exploration of radiation protection, spanning fundamental concepts to the latest technologies. We begin by elucidating radioactivity, radiation, and their interaction with matter. Subsequently, we navigate through radiation units, the radiological protection system, and the biological effects of radiation. Moreover, this chapter investigates radiation detection and measurement techniques, introducing the Monte Carlo method and providing an overview of MCNPX simulation. The chapter culminates in the application of metamaterials for radiation protection, offering insights into potential innovations in shielding against radiation exposure.
