Chapter 8 Suggestions for a diachronic text linguistics
-
Bernard Combettes
Abstract
The objective of this paper is to examine how diachronic text linguistics can constitute a specific discipline when, on the one hand, it studies the development of notions which relate to discursive coherence and, on the other, the changes that can affect the linguistic facts which ensure this coherence. Insofar as the first part of the objective is concerned, it is necessary to avoid applying notions and frameworks of analysis used in synchronic studies. Furthermore, there is a need to consider the development of phenomena concerning textuality, along with textual competence and, more generally, the linguistic consciousness of speakers.
