The Creation of Humanity in HebrewWisdom Literature of the Second Century BCE

Abstract
The creation stories in Gen 1 and Gen 2-3 have been the source of reflection on human nature. One of them comes from Ben Sira who reconfigures the tale and states that humanity was filled with knowledge and understanding. Qumran documents such as 4QInstruction also offer reflections on what was given to humanity, on what was fashioned in the beginning, and on whether humanity has access to wisdom and the potential to know good and evil. These reflections provide a window on the development of dualistic thought in Hellenistic Judea.
