Der Ursprung des römischen Glaubensbekenntnisses

  • Wolfram Kinzig

Abstract

Recently, a new Ethiopic version of the creed contained in the Traditio Apostolica has been discovered. It is virtually identical to the Latin version which has been preserved in the cod. Verona, Biblioteca Capitolare, LV (53) (Fragmentum Veronense) which raises fresh questions about the age of this text. This article offers a reconstruction of its original Greek version, which clearly originates from Rome and which is similar to, but not identical with, the Roman Creed as first attested by Marcellus of Ancyra. The discussion of the age and textual lineage of the reconstructed version has led to a new hypothesis regarding the pre-history of the Roman Creed.
