The ordering of interface mapping rules in German object fronting

Abstract
This paper discusses a data set on object-initial sentences in German. It is shown that it can be accounted for under the assumption that prosody-IS mapping rules come into play at different levels of the grammaticalmodel: Some, for example focus-related rules, apply at high levels, where they have access to prosodic and syntactic structure (and potentially even underlying structural representations). Others, in particular givenness-related rules, apply at lower levels, where they can affect phonetic realization, but not prosodic structure.
