Abstract
This chapter presents the classification of the Turkic language family, including a description of the still unresolved issues regarding its taxonomy. The chapter presents and exemplifies both the inherited structural features of the Turkic languages and the innovations that are effects of language contact in the form of a concise historical- comparative grammar of the Turkic languages and language subgroups. In addition, each Turkic language receives here an up-to-date description regarding its place on the map of Eurasia and strength.
