Abstract

This paper explores the semantics of placement and removal verbs in ǂĀkhoe Haiǁom based on event descriptions elicited with a set of video stimuli. After a brief sketch of the morphosyntax of placement/removal constructions in ǂĀkhoe Haiǁom, four situation types are identified semantically that cover both placement and removal events. The language exhibits a clear tendency to make more fine-grained semantic distinctions in placement verbs, as opposed to semantically more general removal verbs.
