Abstract

The object of this article is to establish the meaning hazel-nut for the well known Akkadian word /allānū/. The author does so by collecting and making full use of the Old Assyrian evidence, including some outstanding Old Babylonian occurrences of the word. The ways of travel as well as amounts, measures and prices are studied and other goods travelling along the /allānū/ are listed and finally the etymology of the word is discussed.
