Die Reihe macht Schlüsseltexte der europäischen Ideengeschichte vom 18. bis zur Mitte des 20. Jahrhunderts für den deutschsprachigen Raum erstmals oder wieder verfügbar. Der Fokus liegt dabei vor allem auf kleineren Schriften, mit denen die Autorinnen und Autoren in die geistigen Debatten ihrer Zeit eingriffen und mit denen sie sich zugleich an ein breiteres Publikum wandten. Für die Auswahl der Schriften sind deren innovativer Charakter und ihre Bedeutung für aktuelle gesellschaftspolitische Debatten entscheidend. Der Reihenkonzeption liegt deshalb ein weites Verständnis der Ideengeschichte zugrunde, das Philosophie, Politikwissenschaft und Soziologie gleichermaßen umfasst.
This volume documents the history of the relationship between federalism and democracy in various contexts in the 19th and early 20th c. The question of political order encompassed various federal models, especially with regard to democracy: Federal republic, federation, confédération, association of states, confederation of states, and later confederation and federal state constitute a contested semantic field of federal political order.
The volume compiles shorter works by the political philosopher Edmund Burke that reflect both his liberal and conservative tendencies. They help to correct the one-sided image of Burke as an anti-progressive critic of the French Revolution, and clearly demonstrate the relevance of his arguments for the current debate on the relationship between political elites and the electorate, on global justice, and on the future of conservatism.
The economist Moritz Julius Bonn (1873–1965) was one of the best-known intellectuals of his time. He fought for parliamentarianism, the democratic constitutional state, European reconciliation, and the taming of capitalism. For the first time, this volume brings together his most important writings from the Weimar era, including his classic essay, The Crisis of European Democracy.

Die vorliegende Auswahl von Texten des französischen Sozialphilosophen und Gesellschaftstheoretikers Charles Fourier (1772-1837) hat zwei Schwerpunkte: Zum einen thematisiert sie die wesentlichen Aspekte und die gedankliche Struktur von Fouriers weitreichendem Œuvre; zum anderen macht sie verständlich, welche Überlegungen Fouriers für heutige Theoretikerinnen und Theoretiker anregend oder anschlussfähig sind. Zu den Themen, die Fourier in den im vorliegenden Band publizierten Schriften behandelt, zählen das Ideal einer exakten Sozialwissenschaft; die Grundlagen der Anthropologie; die „neue Welt“ der Liebe und des Konsums; die Relevanz der Arbeit für ein gelingendes Leben; die Grundstruktur nicht-entfremdeter Gesellschaften; sowie die Kritik an der Philosophie und den Gesellschaftswissenschaften, insbesondere der Ökonomik. Zahlreiche der im Band versammelten Texte werden erstmals auf Deutsch veröffentlicht.
