The dimethylhalonium salts (CH 3 ) 2 X + A- (X = Cl, Br, I; A - = AsF 6 -, SbF 6 - , Sb 2 F 11 - ) are synthesized by methylation of the corresponding methylhalides CH 3 X or dihalomethanes CH 2 Cl 2 and CH 2 Br 2 in the system SO 2 /CH 3 F/MF 5 . The analogous reaction of CH 2 I 2 results in the formation of dimethylmethylendiiodonium hexafluorometallates CH 3 ICH 2 ICH 3 2+ (MF 6 - ) 2 (M = As, Sb). The salts are characterized by Raman-, IR- and NMR-spectroscopy.
