About this journal
The Zeitschrift für Angewandte Linguistik (ZfAL) is the official publication of the Gesellschaft für Angewandte Linguistik (GAL) [Society for Applied Linguistics]. It is one of the most important German journals in this field and appears biannually.
ZfAL seeks to represent the entire field of applied linguistics and to give impulses for the academic discourse in all of its subdisciplines (e.g. languages for specific purposes; language and social interaction; intercultural communication; lexicography; media didactics and media literacy; media communication; multilingualism; migration linguistics; phonetics, rhetoric and speech science; writing research; sociolinguistics; language teaching/pedagogy; language criticism; text linguistics and stylistics; translation and interpreting studies, among others). The emphasis of applied linguistics is on the transfer of linguistic methods and insights to the professional practice of those whose work concerns language, language use and communication.
Starting 2025, Zeitschrift für Angewandte Linguistik will be transferred to Gold Open Access on a year-by-year basis. All articles will thus immediately appear under the Creative Commons license CC-BY. There will be no publication costs for the authors. The Open Access transformation is based on Subscribe-to-Open, an alternative model that enables the full Open Access transformation of journals through the continuation of existing subscriptions. The prerequisite for successful transformation is that subscriptions are continued to the same extent as before. The editors of Zeitschrift für Angewandte Linguistik and the publisher De Gruyter would therefore like to thank all subscribers for their support, which has made the transformation to Open Access possible.

For Authors using the citation software "Citavi"
In order to use the journal citation style, please click on the menu Citation > Citation Style > Change Citation Style. Click on Browse Citation Styles and add. Fill in "Zeitschrift für Angewandte Linguistik" in the Name field. Activate the options box in front of the Style Name and click on add and OK.
In the Word Add-In select the Style on the Citavi register card. Click on Citation Style and select Add Citation Style. Fill in "Zeitschrift für Angewandte Linguistik" in the Name field. Activate the options box above the Style Name and click on add and OK.
