A commercial SnO 2 -based metal oxide gas sensor (UST GGS 1330) operated at a constant temperature of 170 ℃ was evaluated in a frequency range from 40 Hz to 110 MHz using an Agilent 4294A high precision impedance analyzer. The sensor was exposed to carbon monoxide and ethanol at three concentrations each (1, 2 and 5 ppm) and at humidities of 40%rh and 60%rh. After application of the test gas profile, the sensor was repeatedly poisoned with 9.3 ppm of HMDSO for 20 min, and the gas test was repeated up to an overall poisoning dose of 930 ppm min (i.e. five times). Impedance data exhibit characteristic features for the different test gases as well as for sensor poisoning. Using Haar-Wavelet transformation and Adaptive Linear Approximation for feature extraction followed by feature selection with Recursive Feature Elimination Support Vector Machines a total classification rate well above 98% was achieved for test gas type and concentration as well as sensor poisoning state with linear discriminant analysis and a Mahalonobis distance classifier.

Zusammenfassung Ein Amplified Piezo Actuator besteht aus einem piezoelektrischen Stapelaktor und einem metallischen Festkörpergelenkrahmen. Durch diese Kombination ist trotz geringer mechanischer Auslenkungen des Stapelaktors ein für viele Anwendungen nötiger, größerer Stellweg realisierbar. Gleichzeitig können die Vorteile des piezoelektrischen Wandlerprinzips wie hohe Präzision, hohe Eigenfrequenz und hohe Blockierkraft beibehalten werden. Für den Entwurf eines solchen Amplified Piezo Actuators können sowohl analytische Modelle als auch numerische Simulationen hinzugezogen werden. In dieser Arbeit werden ausgewählte analytische Modelle hergeleitet und hinsichtlich eines konkreten Anwendungsbeispiels angepasst. Dies beinhaltet eine rein geometrische Betrachtung, die Beschreibung des mechanischen Aktorverhaltens durch ein elastostatisches sowie ein nachgiebigkeitsbasiertes Modell. Zudem werden Parameterstudien mithilfe entsprechender numerischer Simulationen durchgeführt. Die aus den Simulationsergebnissen gezogenen Schlüsse fließen in die Fertigung von fünf Festkörpergelenkrahmen mit unterschiedlichen Eigenschaften ein. Die Validierung der analytischen und numerischen Modelle anhand durchgeführter Messungen an den gefertigten Aufbauten runden den Beitrag ab.

Zusammenfassung In diesem Beitrag wird ein Sensorkonzept zur simultanen Messung der Temperatur und der Dampffeuchte eines Dampf-Flüssigkeits-Gemisches, insbesondere Wasser, auf der Basis der Infrarot-Spektroskopie vorgestellt. Schwingungsspektren von Reinstoffen hängen neben der Temperatur auch von dem Aggregatzustand und damit dem Phasengehalt einer Probe ab. Es wird beschrieben, wie diese, aus der Literatur bekannten, physikalischen Phänomene in ein technisches Messverfahren übertragen werden können. Dazu werden unterschiedliche Algorithmen zur simultanen Temperatur- und Dampffeuchteauswertung vorgeschlagen.

This paper predict the effect of the object's morphology on the final accuracy of the scanned data, for the case of contactless laser scanning. On the basis of the scanned objects morphology, two important process parameters are specified namely scanning angle and distance of the laser from the part surface. Experiments have been performed with different scanning conditions using full factorial design. An analytical prediction model for determining the standard deviation of the final surface is developed in terms of the aforesaid scanning parameters using response surface methodology (RSM). Furthermore, the optimal scanning parameters are predicted after comparing two almost unexplored nature inspired algorithms i.e. Whale Optimization Algorithm (WOA) and Moth-Flame Optimization (MFO). Finally, two realistic non-trivial case studies are considered for validation of the proposed methodology. The result shows that the standard deviation of the final reverse engineered models significantly reduced by 21.6% and 13.77%. The adopted methodology provides the optimal combination of morphological scanning process parameters with a considerable reduction in standard deviation for final scanned surface models.

Gallium Nitride (GaN) and Indium Gallium Nitride (InGaN) have become important semiconductor materials for the LED lighting industry. Recently, a photoluminescence (PL) technique for direct in-situ characterization of GaN and InGaN layers during epitaxial growth in a planetary metalorganic vapor phase epitaxy (MOVPE) reactor was reported. The PL signals reveal – at the earliest possible stage – information about current layer thickness, temperature, composition, surface roughness, and self-absorption. Thus, the PL data is valuable for both controlling and optimizing the growth parameters, thereby promising both better devices and a better yield for the LED industry. This technical report describes an extension of this PL technique to close coupled showerhead (CCS) reactors with narrow optical viewports. In contrast to the wide aperture optics in previous investigations, a compact and all-fiber optical probe without voluminous lens optics, filter elements or beam splitters was used.
