The organogermane GeH 2 Cp* 2 ( 1 ) was synthesized by the reaction of GeCl 2 Cp* 2 ( A ) with LiAlH 4 in quantitative yield, whereas the synthesis of the previously reported compounds SiCl 2 Cp* 2 ( B ), SnCl 2 Cp* 2 ( C ), SiClHCp* 2 ( D ) and SiH 2 Cp* 2 ( E ) followed established routes. The molecular structures of the Cp*M(IV) derivatives 1 , B , D and E are reported. In addition, compound 1 was characterized by spectroscopic methods such as 1 H and 13 C{ 1 H} NMR spectroscopy, ATR-FTIR spectroscopy and EI-mass spectrometry. The thermal behavior of the germanes 1 and A was investigated by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA, DSC) and PXRD. The decomposition of compounds A and 1 starts at 270°C ( A ) and 200°C ( 1 ), respectively. The formation of crystalline Ge upon heating these compounds in sealed quartz glass capillaries was observed at 270°C ( A ) and 500°C ( 1 ).

Hard magnetic SrFe 12 O 19 (SrFe) nanostructures were synthesized via a facile sol–gel procedure. The effects of temperature concentration and different capping agents on the particle size and morphology of the magnetic nanoparticles were investigated. The synthesized ferrites were characterized by X-ray diffraction pattern (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), and Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy. The ferromagnetic property of the hexa-ferrite nanostructures was determined by alternating gradient force magnetometer (AGFM). SrFe 12 O 19 was added to the poly carbonate (PC) matrix in order to prepare the magnetic and flexible polymer matrix nanocomposite. In the nanocomposite (20%) preparation, results show that coercivity was decreased because of a 20% decrease in saturation magnetization and agglomeration in the polymer matrix.

A high-yield protocol is explored for the synthesis of pyrano[2,3-d]pyrimidines through the multi-component reaction of aromatic aldehydes, 1,3-Dimethylbarbituric acid, and malononitrile using nano-basic silica as an efficient catalyst. The method tolerates various electron-donating and electron-withdrawing groups on the aromatic ring. Nano-basic silica was characterized by field emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM) N 2 adsorption-desorption isotherm, dynamic light scattering (DLS), and X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) techniques. The particles of nano-basic silica have uniform spheres with sizes that are <100 nm. XRD pattern shows that nano-basic silica is amorphous. The specific surface area and pore volume distribution of nano-basic silica are 663 m 2 g −1 and 0.634 cm 3 g −1 , respectively.

When the redox-switchable ionophores switch between their oxidized and reduced forms, they demonstrate different ligating abilities in these forms. The redox-switchable naphthaquinone-derived ionophores (D 1 –D 5 ) are designed and synthesized in this study, with the aim of investigating their cation transport abilities and selectivities across a bulk liquid membrane (BLM) transport system. The biologically significant cations include Li + , Na + , K + , Ca 2+ , and Mg 2+ . The selectivity trend shown by D 1 , D 3 , D 3a , and D 5 is expressed as Mg 2+ >> Na + > K + ≈Ca 2+ , whereas that of D 2 , D 4 , and D 4a is given by Mg 2+ >> Na + > Ca 2+ ≈ K + . The selective transport of Mg 2+ over Li + , Na + , K + , and Ca 2+ by all the ionophores is also observed. The presence of quinone redox moiety in the ionophores leads to their enhanced carrier ability in a reduced state. Ultimately, any variation in the topology of the ionophores lead to variations in their cation-binding strengths and selectivities. The intrinsic abilities of these ionophores to selectively bind and transport Mg 2+ is demonstrated. Moreover, the good and selective transport of Mg 2+ by D 1 reveals its scope in molecular devices, whereas the poor but selective transport of Mg 2+ by D 4a and D 5 demonstrate their application in sensors.

In this work, flower-like nanoparticles of lead sulfide (PbS) and metal-doped PbS nanostructures were synthesized via a simple hydrothermal method in water as a green solvent. The effect of temperature, precipitating agent and capping agent on the morphology and particle size of the products was investigated. Sugars were used as green, safe, cost-effective, and bio-compatible capping agents. The prepared products were characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and ultra violet-visible spectroscopy. The effect of PbS as a photocatalyst on the degradation of three different azo dyes was investigated. Acid brown, acid violet, and acid blue were totally degraded at 60 min under ultra-violet irradiation.

Reaction of SbCl 3 with sodium salt of vanillinidene-2-methylaminobenzene (vmab H ) and salicylidene-3-nitroaminobenzene (snab H ) in 1:1 and 1:2 molar ratios afforded complexes of the type [Sb(η 2 -sb) n Cl 3− n ]( 1–4 ) [where sb=vanillinidene-2-methyl-1-aminobenzene (vmab H ) ( 1, 2 ) and salicylidene-3-nitroaminobenzene (snab H ) ( 3, 4 )]. Bismuth complexes of type [Bi(PBT) n Cl 3− n ] ( 5 , 6 ) have been synthesized similarly by the reaction of BiCl 3 with sodium salt of 2-( o -hydroxyphenyl)-benzothiazole ( H PBT) in different molar ratios (where n=1−2). These newly synthesized complexes of antimony and bismuth have been characterized by elemental (C, H, N, S, Sb, and Bi) analysis and spectroscopic IR, 1 H NMR, and 13 C NMR techniques. The molecular composition of three selective complexes has been confirmed by mass spectrometric studies.

The reaction of Ph 2 P(S)ONa with B(C 6 F 5 ) 3 in the presence of the crown ether 15-crown-5 provided the borate complex [Na(15-crown-5)][Ph 2 P(S)OB(C 6 F 5 ) 3 ] ( 1 ). In one occasion a few crystals of the hydrogen-bonded complex [Na(15-crown-5) 2 ][Ph 2 P(S)O···HO(S)PPh 2 ] ( 2 ) were obtained, which formed upon the accidental hydrolysis of 1 . More rationally, 2 was prepared by the reaction of Ph 2 P(S)OH, Ph 2 P(S)ONa and 15-crown-5. The molecular structures of 1 and 2 were investigated by X-ray crystallography.

The reaction of (C 6 F 5 ) 3 BOPPh 2 OH (prepared in situ from the rather weak Brønsted acid Ph 2 PO 2 H and the strong Lewis acid B(C 6 F 5 ) 3 ) with ( t -Bu 2 SnO) 3 provided the dinuclear complex [ t -Bu 2 Sn(OH)OPPh 2 O)] 2 , which was investigated by X-ray crystallography.
