DIRECT global optimization algorithm is innovatively used in design of PMF. Tap coefficient is attained by achieving DIRECT algorithm with C language and Matlab language is employed to simulate the amplitude response of filters. We have designed PMF (photonic microwave filter) with negative tap coefficient and then optimize the design. The minimum shape factor is as low as 1.3180. The results show that the algorithm is highly efficient in designing filter and can produce necessary passband and stopband response characteristics.

Novel 60° bent ridge waveguides with several layers of hexagonal-lattice dielectric cylinders around the bend corners are proposed in this paper. The finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) simulations show that just one or two layers of cylinders on the hexagonal array are sufficient to assist in turning the guided wave into the 60° bending section. On the other hand, more than three layers of hexagonal-lattice cylinders may result in larger optical reflection such that less power reaches the output port.

A new structured dual-wavelength distributed feedback fiber laser is proposed. In this new structure, phase shift is introduced as well as equivalent phase shift. Theoretical analysis and simulation demonstrates this new structure is able to provide separate resonant cavities to overcome mode competition. Different channels of sampled fiber Bragg gratings are utilized simultaneously, so wide wavelength spacing could be achieved. A 31 GHz spaced dual-wavelength DFB fiber laser is achieved on an Er-doped fiber with excimer laser and homogeneous phase plate. Experiments shows that dual-wavelength lasing is achieved and laser power is in reverse proportion with coupling coefficient of the FBG.

The Routing and Wavelength Assignment (RWA) algorithms that consider quality of transmission (QoT) in light-path setup spend more time than their conventional counterparts due to exhaustive search and QoT estimation. This paper proposes distributed Quality of Transmission Aware Routing and Wavelength Assignment (QARWA) algorithm to handle dynamic light-path provisioning in wavelength routed all-optical networks taking energy consumption of optical switch nodes into account. Specifically, the QARWA considers bit-error rate (BER), setup delay, and energy consumption constraints at the same time, and establishes light-paths with small BER, low setup latency, and reduced energy consumption. We present and evaluate an enhanced wavelength-assignment solution in the QARWA to handle the wavelength continuity constraint. In QARWA, a source node determines the connection path by means of the shortest path algorithm and a destination node selects a wavelength based on the BER limitation and decreasing order of setup latency. Relating energy consumption to processing time, we show that QARWA can decrease the total energy consumption by reducing the processing time at each node. Under QARWA, when a node finishes the processing of the last control packet, it makes transition to either sleep state or idle state. Hence, QARWA can provide the best performance since it can reduce processing time in control units, light-path setup latency, and energy consumption of nodes.

We consider a time-hopping based multiple access scheme introduced in [1] for communication over dispersive infrared links, and evaluate its performance for correlator and matched filter receivers. In the investigated time-hopping code division multiple access (TH-CDMA) method, the transmitter benefits a low rate convolutional encoder. In this method, the bit interval is divided into N c chips and the output of the encoder along with a PN sequence assigned to the user determines the position of the chip in which the optical pulse is transmitted. We evaluate the multiple access performance of the system for correlation receiver considering background noise which is modeled as White Gaussian noise due to its large intensity. For the correlation receiver, the results show that for a fixed processing gain, at high transmit power, where the multiple access interference has the dominant effect, the performance improves by the coding gain. But at low transmit power, in which the increase of coding gain leads to the decrease of the chip time, and consequently, to more corruption due to the channel dispersion, there exists an optimum value for the coding gain. However, for the matched filter, the performance always improves by the coding gain. The results show that the matched filter receiver outperforms the correlation receiver in the considered cases. Our results show that, for the same bandwidth and bit rate, the proposed system excels other multiple access techniques, like conventional CDMA and time hopping scheme.

This paper presents wavelength division multiplexing passive optical network (WDM-PON) system delivering downstream 2.5 Gbit/s data and upstream 1 Gbit/s data on a single wavelength using pulse source is mode locked laser which generating a single pulse of “sech” shape with specified power and width i.e. soliton pulse. The optical source for downstream data and upstream data is sech pulse generator at central office and reflective semiconductor optical amplifier (RSOA) at each optical network unit. We also investigate analysis of backscattered optical signal for upstream data and downstream data simultaneously. Bit error rate, Q -Factor were measured to demonstrate the proposed scheme. In this paper Long reach aspects of an access network is investigated using single channel scenario.

It is important to apply the field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA), and Optical Switch technology as an encoder and decoder for Spectral Amplitude Coding Optical Code Division Multiple Access (SAC-OCDMA) Free Space Optic Fiber to the Home (FSO-FTTH) transmitter and receiver system design. The encoder and decoder module will be using FPGA as a code generator, optical switch using as encode and decode of optical source. This module was tested by using the Modified Double Weight (MDW) code, which is selected as an excellent candidate because it had shown superior performance were by the total noise is reduced. It is also easy to construct and can reduce the number of filters required at a receiver by a newly proposed detection scheme known as AND Subtraction technique. MDW code is presented here to support Fiber-To-The-Home (FTTH) access network in Point-To-Multi-Point (P2MP) application. The conversion used a Mach-Zehnder interferometer (MZI) wavelength converter. The performances are characterized through BER and bit rate (BR), also, the received power at a variety of bit rates.

To improve the optical multicast packet switching node throughput performance, the new multicast scheduling algorithms are need urgently to overcome the entire optical multicast packet discard under the model of “one-shot”. A novel QoS difference optical multicast scheduling algorithm, which supporting the fan-out splitting for optical multicast packet switching node with limited range wavelength converter shared per node and without optical random access memory, is presented in the paper. By dropping partly not all the optical multicast packets which are replicated in the blocking multicast source, the proposed algorithm can improve output port utilization. Moreover, the algorithm is improved to provide service QoS difference for priority different traffic application. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithms remarkably improve the throughput of optical multicast packet switch node in comparison with the existing algorithms and support high priority service with high throughput QoS.
