History

Since 2009 when the Multicultural Association of Law and Language was found with the secretariat located in Hong Kong, studies and collaboration in legal discourse have been frequent and productive between universities and institutions, including Aston University, China University of Political Science and Law,City University of Hong Kong, Columbia Law School, Georgetown University, Harvard University, Örebro University, Peking University, University of California, Seattle University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, The University of Hong Kong, The University of Tokyo, Tulane University, University of Aarhus, University of Exeter, University of Geneva, University of Haifa, University of Toronto, University of Washington, and Zhejiang University. With the successful running of the conference series under the Multicultural Association of Law and Language as well as the International Academy of Linguistic Law, and during the collaboration with other associations such as the International Association of Forensic Linguistics, the International Roundtables for the Semiotics of Law, the International Association for the Philosophy of Law and Social Philosophy, and China Behavior Law Association, we come to realize that we need a pertinent label to address the whole spectrum studing legal phenomena, not only written, such as legislation, but also spoken, such as courtroom oral interaction, as well as non-verbal, such as physical evidence and courtroom settings, and we also come to understand that the interdisciplinary studies of legal phenomena will provide fresh insights. After several rounds of discussions, exchanges and even debates among the editorial board and between the editorial board and the Publisher, De Gruyter Mouton, we have finally agreed to choose a very representative and innovative title for our journal: International Journal of Legal Discourse.

International Journal of Legal Discourse publishes special and thematic issues focussed on important and emerging topics in the field of study. The journal has established a rigorous process to ensure that any special issue manuscripts follow the same high-quality standards and peer review processes as regular manuscripts. For further information on the journal’s peer review policy please see the "Instructions for Authors".
