This paper addresses the model-based control design of wind turbines using the sector-nonlinearity approach. Building on the Takagi-Sugeno framework, this approach introduces an exact representation of the underlying nonlinear dynamics into the control design. The unified wind turbine control design followed in this study addresses both established (power optimization in the partial load and power limitation in the full-load region) and further requirements for wind turbine systems. An important control objective for wind turbines is the ability to support grid operators with frequency control. To achieve this, an active power control scheme is inherited in the design model such that changes in the power generation can be balanced and the grid frequency may be controlled. First, the derivation of models designed to achieve the multiple control objectives is presented in detail. After that, a unified synthesis procedure based on linear matrix inequalities is discussed and applied. Finally, the quality of the design process is evaluated through simulation studies for representative scenarios.

In data-driven modeling besides the point estimate of the model parameters, an estimation of the parameter uncertainty is of great interest. For this, bounded error parameter estimation methods can be used. These are particularly interesting for problems where the stochastical properties of the random effects are unknown and cannot be determined. In this paper, different methods for obtaining a feasible parameter set are evaluated for the use with Takagi-Sugeno models. Case studies with simulated data and with measured data from a manufacturing process are presented.

Zusammenfassung Forward Model Learning, also das Erlernen vorwärtsgerichteter Modelle aus Daten, findet Anwendung in der vorhersagebasierten Regelung. Dazu werden Ein- und Ausgaben des Systems beobachtet, um ein Transitionsmodell zu erstellen und Vorhersagen über zukünftige Zeitschritte zu ermöglichen. Insbesondere komplexe Zustandsräume erfordern den Einsatz von spezialisierten Such- und Modellbildungsverfahren. In dieser Arbeit stellen wir Abstraktionsheuristiken für hochdimensionale Zustandsräume vor, welche es ermöglichen, die Modellkomplexität zu reduzieren und in vielen Fällen ein interpretierbares Ergebnis herbeizuführen. In zwei Fallstudien zeigen wir die Wirksamkeit des vorgestellten Verfahrens anhand von Methoden der Künstlichen Intelligenz in Spielen und in Motion Control Szenarien. Deren Übertragung ermöglicht vielversprechende Anwendungen in der Automatisierungstechnik.

Zusammenfassung Dieser Beitrag adressiert die Identifikation von Takagi-Sugeno-Modellen für nichtlineare stochastische dynamische Systeme. Ist Wissen über die stochastischen Eigenschaften eines dynamischen Prozesses (bspw. bzgl. Verteilungsfunktion, Korreliertheit) verfügbar, so kann dies zur Verbesserung der Modellparameterschätzung genutzt werden. Dabei trifft die oft gemachte Annahme unabhängig und identisch normalverteilter Zufallsgrößen bei technischen Systemen häufig nicht zu. Dies ist bspw. bei mechatronischen Antrieben in Folge von Reibung oft der Fall. Im Beitrag werden deshalb die Dichtefunktionen der Zufallsgrößen als Gaußsche Mischmodelle mittels eines Multistart-Expectation-Maximization-Algorithmus geschätzt. Da die Residualdichtefunktionen zu Beginn der Identifikation nicht verfügbar sind, werden diese aus der Streuung von Wiederholexperimenten approximativ ermittelt und zur approximativen Maximum-Likelihood-Schätzung von Takagi-Sugeno-Modellen genutzt. Wegen der ausgeprägten Multimodalität der resultierenden Likelihood-Funktion wird dazu Partikelschwarm-Optimierung eingesetzt. Die Vorgehensweise wird an einem industriellen servo-pneumatischen Linearantrieb mit reibungsbedingten Unsicherheiten demonstriert. Dabei lässt sich der mittlere Validierungsfehler um 9 % gegenüber einer Least-Squares-Schätzung reduzieren.

A comprehensive procedure to identify a potable water system by data-driven means is proposed. The methodology focuses in a first step on topology identification. Herein, the sensor data is used to establish a directed graph of the underlying system by the means of a coherence-based algorithm and heuristics within a multi-stage strategy. In a second step, the pipe lengths of the water system are identified with the usage of dead time estimates from regularized finite impulse response models. The whole procedure is successfully applied to a simulation model. It is shown that the topology can be correctly identified. The pipe lengths can be determined with sufficient accuracy if heat transfer between supply pipes and return pipes can be neglected. The proposed method can be used to identify the topology and pipe lengths of potable water systems.

Image processing techniques are widely used within automotive series production, including production of electronic control units (ECUs). Deep learning approaches have made rapid advances during the last years, but are not prominent in those industrial settings yet. One major obstacle is the lack of suitable training data. We adapt the recently developed method of domain randomization to our use case of 3D pose estimation of ECU housings. We create purely synthetic data with high visual diversity to train artificial neural networks (ANNs). This enables ANNs to estimate the 3D pose of a real sample part with high accuracy from a single low-resolution RGB image in a production-like setting. Requirements regarding measurement hardware are very low. Our entire setup is fully automated and can be transferred to related industrial use cases.

Zusammenfassung Durch das Aufkommen von kostengünstigen und mobilen Kameras ist es möglich, einfach und flächendeckend ungeordnete Bilddaten in großem Umfang zu erheben. Dadurch können Veränderungen von Gebieten bzw. Objekten aufgezeichnet werden. Die Abbildung von objektbezogenen Veränderungen in aufgezeichneten Bildaufnahmen ist jedoch eine Herausforderung, da diese von externen oder szenischen Veränderungen überlagert werden können. Insbesondere der Umgang mit stark variierenden Blickwinkeln ist eine aktuelle Forschungsfrage. In dieser Arbeit wird ein allgemeines Vorgehen zur Repräsentation von Objektveränderungen vorgestellt. Es wird ein Datensatz eingeführt, um den Ansatz auf Realdaten zu evaluieren. In diesem Zusammenhang werden unterschiedliche Konfigurationen getestet und im Nachgang Empfehlungen für eine effektive Parametrierung herausgearbeitet. Im Anschluss wird als Anwendung eine Klassifikation von Objektzuständen vorgestellt.

The automation of quality control in manufacturing has made great strides in recent years, in particular following new developments in machine learning, specifically deep learning, which allow to solve challenging tasks such as visual inspection or quality prediction. Yet, optimum quality control pipelines are often not obvious in specific settings, since they do not necessarily align with (supervised) machine learning tasks. In this contribution, we introduce a new automation pipeline for the quantification of wear on electrical contact pins. More specifically, we propose and test a novel pipeline which combines a deep network for image segmentation with geometric priors of the problem. This task is important for a judgement of the quality of the material and it can serve as a starting point to optimize the choices of materials based on its automated evaluation.
