In spite of large improvements of formal modeling methods, their technical application in industrial process control implementations is still rare. Two reasons can be pointed out. First, there is still a gap between the formal modeling languages and the control languages used in industrial process control systems respectively specified in normative standards. Second, the focus of the modeling aspects is mostly on the control algorithms itself. Looking at industrial applications, these pure control algorithms yield often just 10 % or less of the behaviour and the signal flows of a control unit. All other aspects like synchronisiation or occupying mechanisms are usually unconsidered. As a consequence of these arguments, first a new framework was developed for specifying modular function block applications in a comprehensive and formal way. Second, a generic template for batch-oriented process control blocks was designed, which takes all aspects of operational handlings into account. Both models – the framework and the template – are described using graphgrammars and hybrid modeling methods. The whole approach appears usefull for normative commitees and for large vendors of process control systems who have to develop function block applications or maintain and merge big function block libraries.

The paper presents a new modeling approach for hybrid systems which is capable to handle even large-sized problems with reasonable effort. It is expressive enough to consider real-valued state variables over a real-valued time axis. In order to demonstrate the usability of our approach, we give an informal, example-based description and refer to the literature for formal definitions. We show the accuracy of our models by comparing simulated and measured behavior of an existing batch plant.

This paper presents two different approaches to the problem of formally verifying the correctness of control systems which consist of a logic controller and a continuous plant and, thus, constitute a hybrid system. One approach aims at algorithmic verification and combines Condition/Event Systems with Timed Automata. The first framework is used to model the controller and the plant in a block-diagram representation, which is then translated into the latter model for analysis by available tools. A second approach is presented which is based on deductive verification. It allows for a structured analysis of compositional specifications formulated in a temporal logic called cTLA. This logic is a compositional style of the Temporal Logic of Actions established in Computer Science by Lamport. Both approaches are introduced using a common example and the results of their application are discussed. As an outlook, a possible strategy for integrating algorithmic and deductive verification of hybrid systems is sketched at the end of the paper.

Sowohl beim Entwurf einer Prozessführungseinrichtung als auch bei der Verifikation gesteuerter Prozesse ist zu überprüfen, welche Prozesszustände von einer aktuellen Anfangssituation aus mit den zur Verfügung stehenden Stellgrößen erreicht werden können. Die bei der Erreichbarkeitsanalyse verwendeten Verfahren hängen eng mit der Beschreibungsform zusammen, die das vorhandene Wissen über den Prozess mit Blick auf das Automatisierungsziel abbildet. Ausgehend von zwei verschiedenen Steuerungsaufgaben bei hybriden dynamischen Systemen vermittelt der Beitrag einen Einblick in das Anwendungspotential zweier Methoden zur Erreichbarkeitsanalyse auf Basis einer ereignisdiskreten Abstraktion des Systemverhaltens beziehungsweise einer gemischt diskret-kontinuierlichen Beschreibung. An einem Beispiel werden die Verfahren gegen übergestellt und aufgezeigt, inwiefern sie sich in der praktischen Anwendung ergänzen.

Gegenstand dieses Beitrags ist die Verhinderung von Verklemmungssituationen, oft auch als Deadlocks bezeichnet, in ereignisdiskret modellierbaren Systemen wie flexiblen Fertigungssystemen, Kommunikationsnetzwerken oder nebenläufigen Computerprogrammen. Nach einer Diskussion gängiger Verfahren wird eine neue Methodik vorgestellt, die sehr schnell optimale – im Sinne von minimal-restriktiven – Steuerinstanzen zur Deadlockverhinderung generiert. Diese lassen sich u.a. einfach in speicherprogrammierbaren Steuerungen, überwacherinstanzen oder Schedulern implementieren. Zwei nicht-triviale Beispiele aus dem Bereich flexible Fertigung zeigen die Leistungsfähigkeit des neuen Verfahrens
