As some scholars have already suggested, the « Artemidorus map » does not depict a Spanish landscape, but a huge river delta. This article argues in favour of the Nile delta in Ptolemaic times. The three main river courses at the centre of the map correspond exactly to what Ps.Skylax (340 BC) called the « Sebennytic », « Mendesian » and « Phatnitic » mouths (stomata). Some peculiarities, like the Bubastis island and the Red Sea canal, seem to confirm this identification.

A new scenario is proposed regarding the origin of the Ninus: the text may have been written in Parthia halfway through the 1st century BC. This article offers a proposal for the plot of the first part of this work, and speculation on whether the motifs of the Ninus have left their mark on Persian literature. The existence of another Greek lost novel, where the main character would be Semiramis, is suggested.

Edition of a fragment of a collection of Greek medical recipes possibly from a book roll. The remains concern the preparation of a plaster for application to the face and other parts of the body. Ingredients include an unnamed substance sourced from Cappadocia.

This paper examines SB XX 15071 and P.Mich. III 146, two papyri containing tables of divisions, which have been edited separately but turn out to belong to the same roll. The article offers a new edition of the rejoined pieces, a thorough discussion of various aspects related to the roll, such as provenance and chronology, handwriting, presence of variants of result, purpose of the tables.

Editio princeps of three new papyrus fragments belonging to the University of Jena. They are part of the same roll as SM II 71, a magic handbook of the first century BC. An invocation possibly addressed to Hecate-Selene as part of an erotic spell appears in fr. a; fr. b seems to belong to a procedure in which iron rings are used. No physical join with any of the fragments already published can be established.

A papyrus codex which contained the Sahidic version of the Gospel of John exhibits a highly interesting “marginal note”. On the bottom margin of one page (Paris BNCopte164 II fol. 16m) one finds traces of the beginning of five lines written in Greek in a cursive hand usually used in documentary papyri. A closer look at the Greek cursive suggests that these lines originally belonged to the text of a fifth-century protokollon.

The article provides a new reading of a passage in a list of pupils of Carneades which can be found in Philodemus’ Index Academicorum (PHerc. 1021, col. 23,10-20). Several names of philosophers were mistakenly reconstructed by former editors and turn out to be gost names. Instead the fathers and ethnical origins of the prominent Academics Melanthius of Rhodes and Metrodorus of Stratonikea are mentioned in the papyrus.

Edition, with philological and liturgical commentary, of two Theban 7th/8th century liturgical prayers in Sahidic Coptic from the Berlin Papyrus Collection. The first prayer is an unattested redaction of the intercession for peace, related to the wording of the anaphora of St. Mark. The second is a long and elaborate prayer of thanksgiving, asking for protection. It parallels the first prayer of the morning of the present-day Coptic rite.

The Jena papyrus collection contains eight Coptic items (P.Ien. Inv. 446-453) belonging to a larger assemblage of Greek, Demotic, Coptic and Arabic papyri (P.Ien. Inv. 259-472) which Fritz Uebel described as „the Edfu purchase of the year 1911“. Uebel took the provable provenance from Edfu of a number of Ptolemaic Greek papyri to hold for the assemblage as a whole. Of five less fragmentary Coptic papyri from this assemblage published in this article, three at least are unlikely to come from Edfu. The Coptic part of the „Edfu purchase of the year 1911“ thus challenges Uebel’s generalising conclusion.
