This article re-examines P.Oxy. 2174 fr. 5 (Hipponax fr. 74 West = Degani), offers an improved transcription of its text, and questions its relevance to the other fragments of the papyrus, suggesting instead that it may belong to a papyrus of the Odyssey.

In the text of the Ektheosis Arsinoes, as we have it, the name of the title character does not appear at all. Although it may be the result of the poem’s fragmentary state of preservation, it seems to be consistent with Callimachus’s stylistic preferences. This article suggests that the missing name ARSINOA can be detected in an anagram hidden in the first half of line 46.

First Edition of two papyrus fragments in the Trier collection (P.UB Trier S 108-36 and 108-37) which supplement SB XVIII 13099, a petition of a house owner, a woman described as a honey-seller, to Asklepiades the oikonomos of the Arsinoite nome, for enforced collection of outstanding rent (3 rd cent. BC).

This article provides a new reading of a notarial signature in papyrus BGU III 997, a copy of an agoranomic sale from the Ptolemaic period. The signature was not transcribed in the original edition since only traces of it survive and the papyrus seems blank and intact at that place. A closer examination reveals that only the upper layer of the papyrus has been peeled off. How, when, and why the alteration took place, remains unsolved.

This article examines the meaning of the word ξυστήρ and points out the different types of «scrapers» it may refer to according to the context. In view of the analogy of form and function between all the tools considered, this study discusses the lexical identification and actual use of specific implements such as the woodworking drawknife.

This article reviews possible papyrological evidence for rebel activity in the Fayum during the Great Revolt (206-185 BC). A recently-published archive belonging to two Tanis taricheutai has provided evidence for Fayum rebels. Seven further papyri that might describe rebel activity, but have not been read that way before, complement this picture. These documents shed light on the meaning and recognition of violence and crime in a time of revolt.

The article presents the edition of two papyri previoulsly described as P.Fay. 300 (P.Cair. Cat. 10841) and 342 (P.Cair. Cat. 10861). The former is an account of tax (?) collections in kind from Euhemeria involving officers called paralēmptai (“receivers”) or possibly sitoparalēmptai (“grain receivers”); the latter is a tax receipt issued by the sitologoi of Berenikis Aigialou and mentions the special measure standard epaiton.

Edition of nine ostraca from Elephantine, now in the Egyptian Museum in Cairo, containing receipts for several money taxes from the 2 nd century AD.

Publication of a new receipt (for the price of rolls of papyri) from the Panopolite archive of the descendants of Alopex. The document is part of the collection of the Prewitt- Allen Archaeological Museum at Corban University in Salem, Oregon.

This article is an edition of a 5th century Greek private letter on papyrus, from a Christian context, sent from Alexandria. Written by a son to his mother through another person, the letter is typical of Christian Greek epistolography (Christian turns of phrase, judicial proceedings, food purchase, condolences, formulae valetudinis). It also mentions the St-John’s martyrium of Alexandria.

A first edition of five private letters on family and business matters, dating between the second and seventh centuries CE. Of particular note are mentions of the management of ousiac land (text no. 2), a petition before the dux in connection with misappropriation of barley imported to an oasis (no. 4) and, possibly, an imperial visit to Egypt (no. 3).

This article collects all the papyrological and bibliological observations necessary for a new edition of P.Herc. 1428 (= TM 62400; LDAB 3563), which comes from the large Herculanean roll that preserves Philodemus’ treatise On Piety. A new critical reconstruction, along with a translation and some selected notes, of the ‘pre- Socratic section’ of P.Herc. 1428 is presented.

Edition with philological, theological and liturgical commentary of a Coptic prayer preserved on a papyrus from the seventh or eighth century in the collection of the University of Oslo Library. The prayer, which accompanied the consecration of the wine in the chalice in the presence of already consecrated bread, has a coda in Greek signalling the ensuing oral recitation of the Lord’s Prayer.

This paper presents the edition of a short Arabic private legal document. The papyrus, P.Cam. Michaelides B 332 recto, records the receipt of sixty one and a half dīnārs less a sixth. The document dates to the month of Muḥarram of the year 274/May-June 887.
