This new edition systematizes the field of application of §§ 134–138 of the German Civil Code (BGB) and ProstG, discusses their doctrinal background, and draws out the substantial reasoning behind legal rulings. This edition of Renunciation of Inheritance (§§ 2346–2352) addresses issues like the consequences of renouncing the statutory right to inheritance or the compulsory share; the court test of reasonableness of contents in spousal inheritance renunciation contracts; qualifying settlements for the renunciation of inheritance as legal transactions with or without payment; renouncing inheritance in procedural, tax, and international private law; etc.

The regulations regarding the right of withdrawal (sections 346-354) and the right of revocation and return (sections 355 - 359) as they apply to consumer contracts, which were fundamentally altered by the reform of the law of obligations and have gained in practical importance, have comprehensively been brought up to date.
