Thirteen Housing and anti-social behaviour in Australia

Abstract
This chapter looks at the emergence of ASB as an important issue in Australian policy discourse and housing management practice. It argues that ASB is not a well-established concept in Australia. It then describes how policy discourse and the actions of housing managers and other professionals have been less focused on corrective legal sanctions than is the case in the UK. Rather, these are characterised by community-focused interventions that are aimed at handling complicated causal factors. It is also indicated in this chapter that Australian housing and ASB policy is at a critical juncture, where it may result in a change in discourse, practice and policy.
