OLE B. THOMSEN has been closely connected with planning for higher education in Denmark as Secretary in the Ministry of Education for five years, and secretary on several committees concerned with higher education includign the planning of two new universities. His acadmic career includes teaching at all levels of the education system: primary school, Municipal Youth School of Copenhagen, Copenhagen School of Economics and Social Science. He is now a Fellow of Higher Education at the University of Copenhagen. In 1965 Professor Thomsen held the first Peter Sandiford Visiting Professorship at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education and during his stay in Canada delivered the four lectures included in this volume.
