Abstract
In the study of classical waves, i.e., electromagnetic and elastic waves, wave localization and spectral gap materials are two of the most important developments over the past two decades. While the main subject matter of this volume is on spectral gap materials, it is the purpose of this article to attempt a qualitative overview of the two subjects, in terms of the underlying physics.
