Low temperature polymorphs of the compound In3SnI5
Abstract
In3SnI5 prepared from the binary iodides transforms at 247.3(8)°C from a low to a high temperature modification. Single crystal studies reveal, that the low temperature product consists of three different polymorphs, the structures of which are described in detail. Common feature of all these forms is the arrangement of the cation coordination polyhedra in layers of two different kinds and the stacking sequence of the layers. They differ in the relative orientation of successive layers of one type. An estimation of relative thermodynamic stabilities via Effective Coordination Numbers ECoN and Madelung Parts of Lattice Energies MAPLE revealed an approximately equal stability of all polymorphs.
