π-character of C(phenyl) – N(amide) bonds in acetanilides and C(phenyl) – C(keto) bonds in acetophenones

Abstract
The π-overlap between the phenyl ring and the side chain, in acetanilides and acetophenones, is not directly related to the coplanarity of these moieties.
