Optical and interferometric studies of growth forms due to screw dislocations on natural quartz

Abstract
Optical and interferometric studies have been made of surface structures of natural Alpine quartz and some from other sources. Eccentric growth spiral on a (01[unk]1) face is illustrated and interpreted as due to unequal rate of advance of growth sheets in different directions. Triangular and almost circular growth spirals observed on such other faces are also illustrated. Closed loops of growth fronts are also reported and interpreted. Evidence is given for movement of a screw dislocation during the process of growth.
