Summary

The dissolution data of UO2 are important to develop the new process of uranium ore leaching and new head-end reprocessing of spent nuclear fuel. The dissolution experiments of UO2 pellets in 8 M nitric acid by microwave heating and conventional heating were carried out respectively in the present work. Compared with the conventional heating, the microwave heating can remarkably promote the dissolution process of UO2 pellets with a dissolution ratio increase of 26%–46%. The kinetics results show that the dissolution processes by microwave heating and conventional heating match well with the diffusion control model and the surface reaction control model, respectively.
