Abstract
In an article that appeared in the Philologus in 1991, C.W. Müller has shown that Plato′s Menexenos is the spontaneous reaction of the author to the publication of the Panegyrikos in 381/80. Though it opens new insights into the relations between Plato and Isocrates, this plausible thesis has been criticized. In my essay, I back up Müller′s thesis by refuting a few characteristic objections directed against it and by proposing some observations concerning a linguistic turn, the prepositional phrase ἐξ ὑπογύου.
