Mit Spannung erwartete die Öffentlichkeit in der Bundesrepublik, wie sich die Außenpolitik der am 1. Dezember 1966 neu gebildeten Regierung darstellen würde. Denn zum ersten und bisher einzigen Mal in der Geschichte der Bundesrepublik fand sich mit dem Zusammengehen von CDU/CSU uns SPD eine "Große Koalition" zusammen, die ihre Fähigkeit zur politischen Zusammenarbeit gerade vor dem Hintergrund der zurückliegenden Auseinandersetzungen in Fragen der Westbindung und der Deutschlandpolitik erst noch beweisen mußte. Zudem stellten die Sozialdemokraten mit Willy Brandt einen Außenminister, der als ehemaliger Regierender Bürgermeister von Berlin ein großes Maß an außenpolitischem Gestaltungswillen einbrachte.
Aufschluß über die Bilanz dieses ersten Jahres der "Großen Koalition" gibt nun der Jahresband 1967 der "Akten zur Auswärtigen Politik der Bundesrepublik Deutschland", der mit Ablauf der dreißigjährigen Sperrfrist eine Auswahl vom 449 Dokumenten zur Außenpolitik der Regierung Kiesinger/Brandt präsentiert.
