Abstract
The normative dimension of Friedrich August Hayek’s work is characterised by an anti-socialist eclecticism stemming from three sources, that is, three contradictory approaches in moral philosophy: (1) evolutionism, (2) utilitarianism, and (3) deontology. In other words, whereas Hayek is dogmatically committed to a certain political line, he is an eclectic in normative questions: the anti-socialism remains a constant throughout his work, while the moral philosophical arguments used to justify it are changing all the time. As a result, he does not manage to show convincingly that liberalism is desirable, and that socialism should be rejected.
