Kultur gilt längst als zentraler Faktor der Stadtentwicklung. Doch wann und wie entstehen kulturelle Innovationen? Welche ökonomischen und politischen Wirkungen kann Kultur entfalten? In Erweiterung von Richard Floridas These, dass der ökonomische Aufschwung einer Stadt von ihrer kulturellen Innovationskraft abhängt, gehen die Autorinnen und Autoren diesen Fragen nach und leisten damit einen entscheidenden Beitrag, das Zusammenspiel von künstlerischer und ökonomischer Innovationskraft, von kultureller Heterogenität, Kreativität und Gemeinschaftsentwicklung zu erklären.

Gudrun Quenzel (Dr. phil.) lehrt und forscht zu Stadt- und Jugendkulturen an der Universität Bielefeld und ist Mitarbeiterin des Kulturwissenschaftlichen Instituts in Essen. Ihre Forschungsschwerpunkte sind europäische Identität, Kultur und gesellschaftliche Integration sowie Diskursanalyse.
