  • Shoichi Iwasaki

    Shoichi Iwasaki is Professor at University of California (UCLA). His research interests include discourse analysis and functional linguistics. He works on Japanese, Thai, and Ryukyuan, and has authored and co-authored, among others, (i) Perspectives on Topicalization: The Case of Japanese wa. (with Hinds and Maynard, Benjamins, 1987); (ii) Subjectivity in Grammar and Discourse: Theoretical Considerations and a Case Study of Japanese Spoken Discourse (Benjamins, 1993); (iii) A Reference Grammar of Thai (with Ingkaphirom, Cambridge, 2005); and (iv) Japanese (Benjamins, 2013). In the past several years, he has been working on Ikema, an endangered Ryukuan language, and has recently co-authored a dictionary of this language.
