On the finds of provincial Roman fibulae on the territory of Belarus

Abstract
The article presents fibulae of provincial Roman origin from museum collections of the Republic of Belarus. They are relatively few in number and originate primarily from the southwestern regions of the country. The typological series of these fibulae is generally characteristic of similar imports that circulated in Central Europe, various regions of Sarmatian settlement, as well as in the circle of broadly understood Balt cultures. Their general dating covers the entire Early Roman and the beginning of the Late Roman period. Observations on the typology and distribution pattern of imported Roman fibulae contribute to the analysis of the connections of the population of present day Belarus within Barbaricum. Analysis of these finds creates new opportunities for synchronizing the Belarus antiquities from Roman times with the chronology of neighbouring cultures of Central Europe and the Baltic region. It also allows us to change our understanding of the role of the population of Belarus in the formation and distribution of artefacts from the “barbarian enamels” horizon.
Zusammenfassung
Im Artikel werden Fibeln provinzialrömischen Ursprungs aus Museumssammlungen der Republik Belarus präsentiert. Provinzialrömische Fibeln sind relativ selten und stammen hauptsächlich aus den südwestlichen Regionen des Landes. Die typologische Reihe dieser Fibeln ist im Allgemeinen charakteristisch für vergleichbare Importstücke, die in Mitteleuropa, verschiedenen sarmatischen Siedlungsgebieten sowie im Kreis der weit verstandenen baltischen Kulturen zirkulierten. Ihre allgemeine Datierung deckt die gesamte früh- und beginnende spätrömische Zeit ab. Beobachtungen zur Typologie und zum Verteilungsmuster der importierten römischen Fibeln tragen zur Analyse der Verbindungen der Bevölkerung des heutigen Weißrusslands innerhalb des Barbaricums bei. Die Analyse dieser Funde eröffnet Möglichkeiten, die weißrussischen Altertümer aus römischer Zeit mit der Chronologie der benachbarten Kulturen Mitteleuropas und des Baltikums zu synchronisieren. Dies erlaubt es uns auch, unser Verständnis der Rolle der seinerzeitig auf dem Gebiet Weißrusslands lebenden Bevölkerung bei der Entstehung und Verbreitung von Artefakten aus dem Horizont der „barbarischen Emaillen“ zu verändern.

У артыкуле прадстаўлены фібулы правінцыйнарымскага паходжання з музейных збораў Рэспублікі Беларусь. Яны параўнальна нешматлікія і паходзяць пераважна з паўднёва-заходніх раёнаў краіны. Тыпалагічны шэраг гэтых фібул у цэлым характэрны для аналагічных імпартаў, якія абрачаліся ў Цэнтральнай Еўропе, розных рэгіёнах рассялення сарматаў, а таксама ў шырока зразумелым коле балцкіх культур. Іх сумарнае датаванне ахоплівае ўвесь раннерымскі і пачатак познерымскага перыяду. Назіранні над тыпалогіяй і характарам распаўсюджвання імпартных рымскіх фібул спрыяюць вывучэнню сувязяў насельніцтва сучаснай Беларусі ў Барбарыкуме. Аналіз гэтых знаходак стварае новыя магчымасці для сінхранізацыі беларускіх старажытнасцяў рымскага часу з храналогіяй суседніх культур Цэнтральнай Еўропы і Прыбалтыкі. Ён дазваляе таксама змясціць акцэнты ў нашых уяўленнях аб ролі насельніцтва Беларусі ў фарміраванні і распаўсюджванні рэчаў гарызонту “варварскіх эмаляў”.
