Zusammenfassung
Eine in den 1980er Jahren von H. Ziegert durchgeführte Ausgrabung in Assel, Ldkr. Stade, förderte sieben Gräber zu Tage, die in diesem Artikel umfassend vorgelegt werden. Es handelt sich um insgesamt acht Körperbestattungen, die zum Teil mit bislang gänzlich unbekannten, herausragenden Beigaben versehen waren und hierüber an den Beginn des 5. Jahrhunderts datiert werden können. Besonders sticht Grab 1 hervor – der hier bestatteten Frau wurde ein üppiger Halsschmuck, bestehend aus über 200 einzelnen Glas- und Bernsteinperlen in verschiedensten Farben und Formen sowie 21 in ihrer Größe und Form außergewöhnlichen Bernsteinanhängern, mit ins Grab gegeben. Weiterhin finden sich mit einer komponierten Schalenfibel und einer gleicharmigen Fibel Objekte aus kerbschnittverziertem und vergoldetem Silberpressblech sowie unter anderem ein gläserner Nuppenbecher. In dieser Kombination entsteht ein nicht alltägliches Ensemble, welches nur wenige Parallelen kennt und zum einen den besonderen Status verdeutlicht, den die hier bestattete Frau innegehabt haben muss und zu einer Ansprache als Eliten- bzw. Prunkgrab führt, zum anderen aber auch überregionale Verbindungen aufzeigt und damit einen neuen Aspekt in Bezug auf die Frage nach der Bedeutung sowie der Einbindung des Platzes im kaiser- und völkerwanderungszeitlichen Handels- und Kommunikationssystem liefert.
Abstract
An excavation carried out by H. Ziegert in Assel, Stade district in the 1980s brought to light seven graves, which are presented in detail in this article. There are a total of eight inhumations, some of which were furnished with previously unknown, outstanding grave goods. Grave 1 stands out in particular- the buried woman was given a lavish necklace consisting of over 200 individual glass and amber beads in various colours and shapes as well as 21 amber pendants of unusual size and shape, with her grave. There are also objects made of notched and gilded silver Pressblech with a composed bowl brooch and an equal-armed brooch, as well as a glass nub cup, among other things. This combination creates an unusual ensemble that has only a few parallels and on the one hand emphasises the special status that the woman buried here must have had, but on the other hand also provides a new aspect with regard to the question of the regional and supra-regional significance and the integration of the site in the trade and communication system of the Roman Iron Age and migration period.
