Abstract

In this work, photocatalytic oxidation of reactive Black-5(RB-5) dye was investigated with illuminated TiO2. Effects of various parameters such as catalyst loading, contact time, pH and initial dye concentration on the removal efficiency of RB-5 dye was studied. Oxidation and adsorption were recognized as significant processes for the removal of RB-5 dye. Removal of RB-5 dye decreased with increasing pH and initial dye concentration. TiO2 dosage was an important parameter for the removal of RB-5 dye. As the TiO2 dosage increased up to 1 g/L TiO2, the removal efficiency of RB-5 dye was continuously enhanced. Removal trend of RB-5 was fitted well with the pseudo-first-order equation. From this work, it is possible to suggest that photocatalytic reaction with illuminated TiO2 can be effectively applied to treat industrial wastewater contaminated with dyes.
