Platypus Paddling in International Waters: A Theological Reflection on Anglican Representation at the United Nations in New York

Abstract
This paper presents a sustained theological reflection on the experience of a Summer Internship at the Anglican Communion Office at the United Nations (ACOUN) in New York. This paper explores and reflects on questions of representation and relationship in the Anglican tradition; leadership and advocacy in relation to Christian witness; and, the challenges and opportunities of ecumenical collaboration. Three theological lenses form the basis for this reflection: an Incarnational model of Secular Engagement; a Baptismal understanding of Ecumenical Co-operation; and, a Trinitarian theology of Relationality. The result of this exploration is the proposal of a theologically robust rationale for Anglican engagement in international affairs.
Zusammenfassung
Dieser Artikel präsentiert eine theologische Reflektion auf die Erfahrung einer Sommerhospitation im Büro der Anglikanischen Gemeinschaft bei den Vereinten Nationen (ACOUN) in New York. Der Artikel behandelt Fragen von Repräsentation und Beziehung in der Anglikanischen Tradition, Führung und Fürsprache in Bezug auf christliches Zeugnis und die Herausforderungen und Möglichkeiten ökumenischer Zusammenarbeit. Drei theologische Perspektiven bilden die Basis dieser Reflektion: ein Inkarnationsmodell für säkulare Beteiligung, ein Taufverständnis für ökumenische Zusammenarbeit und eine trinitäre Theologie der Beziehung. Dies führt zum Vorschlag einer theologisch fundierten Grundlage für Anglikanische Beteiligung in internationalen Angelegenheiten.
