Theological Analysis of Religious Practices
Abstract
The discipline of Practical Theology should reclaim its theological focus. Its field of research is the broad area of religious practices, but – unlike social scientific research – practical theology has primarily a theological concern. Practical theologians use theological concepts to describe, analyze and reconstruct the religious dimension of religious practices and lived religion. Since the relationship with the divine is constitutive for practices of prayer, the practical theologian reflects on notions like “addressing God” and uses concepts that originate in Christian practices and traditions.
Zusammenfassung
Das Fachgebiet der Praktischen Theologie sollte seinen theologischen Fokus zurückfordern. Die Praktische Theologie hat im Gegensatz zu den Sozialwissenschaften primär ein theologisches Interesse bei der Erforschung von Religion. Praktische Theologen verwenden theologische Konzepte für das Beschreiben, Analysieren und Rekonstruieren der religiösen Dimension von Praktiken im Feld der gelebten Religion. Weil die Gottesbeziehung für die Praxis des Gebetes bestimmend ist, reflektiert die Praktische Theologie Begriffe wie “Gott anrufen” und verwendet dazu Konzepte, die ihrerseits auf die christliche Tradition und deren Praktiken zurückgehen.
