1st International Conference on Green Chemistry and Sustainable Engineering (GreenChemSE)

This special issue of Green Processing and Synthesis includes a selection of papers presented at the 1st International Conference on Green Chemistry and Sustainable Engineering (GreenChemSE), held in Barcelona (Spain) from 29th to 31st July, 2014.
The conference was aimed to create an international forum of academics, researchers and scientists to discuss worldwide results and proposals regarding the soundest issues related to environmentally friendly and sustainable chemical processes. Over 250 communications from authors from 38 countries were included in the conference program.
With such an aim the scientific program of the conference was divided into different thematic areas, namely: novel synthetic methodologies towards sustainability; analysis and control methods in green chemistry; green engineering; bioresources; innovative technologies for industrial green processes; and environmentally improved synthetic routes. This special issue includes nine peer-reviewed research papers presented in the sessions of GreenChemSE.
The organizers wish to demonstrate their deep acknowledgement to the members of the Scientific Committee, all of them relevant scientists in their respective fields of knowledge. We greatly appreciate the efforts of the members of the Organizing Committee. The conference could not have been successful without their essential task.
The organizers wish to thank the plenary speakers Prof. M. Chakrabortty (Assam Engineering College, India) and Prof. K. Seshan (University of Twente, The Netherlands), for their excellent plenary lectures. We are also very grateful to the Polytechnical Institute of Portalegre (Portugal), the Hidranatura Campus of International Excellence of the University of Extremadura (Spain), and Biomassa BR for the financial support that made possible the organization of the conference.
We would also like to express our gratitude to all contributors, referees, technical staff and the Editors of Green Processing and Synthesis for the efforts in realizing this special issue and, particularly, to Mrs. Jannelies Smit, the Assistant Managing Editor of the journal.
