Key features and objectives of EAS2013
EAS is the second largest conference and exposition for laboratory science in the U.S. dedicated to the needs of analytical chemists and those in the allied sciences. It has been a center of innovative science and practical solutions for the analytical community for over 50 years. Offering high quality technical sessions, short courses, workshops and seminars, we provide professional scientists and students with continuing education as they expand their Knowledge, broaden their Network, and advance their Career. A large exposition of laboratory instruments, supplies and services related to the science is held concurrently with the symposia to meet all the needs of attendees under one roof.
The symposium offers an opportunity to present and hear a diverse scientific program and this coming November, we have implemented a few changes for the meeting. On the afternoon of November 18, the winner of the EAS Award for Outstanding Achievement in the Field of Analytical Chemistry, Dr. Irving Wainer from the National Institute on Aging/NIH, is delivering a general interest presentation entitled: When Someone Says “Everybody Knows That …” Stop Listening! Adventures in Basic and Translational Research. There will be a time of networking with refreshments to follow and opportunity for EAS to come together as a community regardless of our individual specialties. We have also changed the layout of the exposition center to make the poster sessions more interactive and visible. The posters are being relocated to a larger space in the center of the exhibit hall and will remain up throughout the day. Authors will be present at their poster for a specified period to encourage scientific discussion.
Conference topics
The intent of having access to multiple laboratory disciplines (spectroscopy, chromatography, microscopy, chemometrics, etc.) as well as a variety of applications (from pharmaceuticals and forensics to conservation science and surface analysis) is to encourage researchers to look for ideas and solutions from different sources and in a different light. Consider attending technical sessions like “Environmental Analysis for Cultural Heritage”, “Practical Trace Analysis in Forensic and Environmental Applications”, “Environmental Surface Chemistry”, or “Keeping Water Safe: Analysis of Aqueous Systems” to talk with those working in the field. Attend an Award Session to hear the experts report on the past, present and future of the field. There will be a specific poster session on Wednesday, November 20 devoted to Environmental Analysis. Short courses, taught by experts, emphasize practical knowledge of a variety of topics to help one keep current with best practices and new techniques. A new short course on Green Analytical Chemistry is offered this year. Whether the need is to learn a new analytical technology, understand new regulations, explore an entirely new analytical field, or just brush up on a new concept in your area of expertise, EAS invites you to take part.
Venue
The Garden State Exhibit center in Somerset, NJ meets the needs of attendees as it houses the registration, employment bureau, poster and exposition areas. It is connected by a covered walkway to the meeting space where a majority of the technical program occurs and a short distance to the hotel where short courses are held. A complimentary shuttle is provided to move among the different buildings. New Jersey is within short driving distance of major international airports in New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
Located in the northeastern Unites States, it is close to numerous industries and universities that provide us with many of the award winners, speakers, instructors and board members that make the symposium and exposition possible.
