A new section: Special Series – Diagnostic Error in Medicine Conference
-
Mark L. Graber
We are delighted to be but in this issue the first in a series of publications that will highlight major issues and themes discussed at the Society to Improve Diagnosis in Medicine’s “Diagnostic Error in Medicine” (DEM) conferences. Publications in this series are solicited from the best presentations at the DEM conference, and those with the widest general interest. Like the companion articles published in this issue that discuss medical, legal, and ethical issues involving the miscommunication of radiology test results, many of these articles will present different perspectives around a controversial or important topic.
The Diagnostic Error in Medicine conference series was first convened in 2008 to provide a scholarly forum devoted to improving diagnosis in medicine. The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality has been the major sponsor of the conference, which is now held annually at rotating locations in the United States. Information about the most recent conference can be found at www.DEM2014.org <http://www.DEM2014.org>.
