Abstract
Die „besser statt billiger“-Kampagne der IG Metall NRW zielt u.a. darauf ab, von der Gewerkschaft wahrgenommene Modernisierungsdefizite in den Unternehmen zu beheben. Auf der Grundlage von Fallstudien in 16 Betrieben, deren Betriebsräte „besser“-Konzepte verfolgt haben, geht der Artikel der Frage nach, was „besser“ in der Praxis bedeutet. Dazu wird untersucht, ob in den Betrieben Innovationen realisiert wurden, welcher Art diese waren und wie diese Innovationen unter arbeitspolitischen Gesichtspunkten zu bewerten sind.
Abstract
The German metalworkers’ union in North Rhine-Westphalia initiated a campaign called “better not cheaper” that among other things aims at remedying deficits in innovative activities the union perceives in companies. Based on case studies in 16 companies whose works councils followed “better”-concepts the article asks what “better” means in practice. It examines if innovations were realized in the companies, what types of innovation were realized and if they foster innovative strategies of work organization that permit win-win-situations.
