Abstract

The present study deals with fragments 45 and 46 K. of Euripides’ Alexandros. Detailed analysis, taking into account the new findings on fragments 46a and 62d, col.iii K. of the same drama, suggests that they do not belong to a conversation between the chorus leader and Hecabe after the parodos, but to a dialogue between Hecabe and Paris in front of the palace before the murderous attack on Paris. This dialogue is suddenly interrupted by Cassandra’s prophetic appearance and continues briefly after the seer’s departure until Hecabe enters the palace with Paris.
