Exodus 14,20 – ein neuer Blick auf ein altes Problem

The article seeks to determine the subject of the striking formulation in Ex 14,20 (הלילה ויאר אח). In order to do so, one has to take into account the many parallels to Gen 1 in the adjacent verses. Consequently, the subject is »the messenger of God«, i.e. YHWH himself. The event is understood as analogous to the creation of light and so as a fundamental act of creation. Thus it is part of the act of salvation (cf. Ex 14,13).
Afin de résoudre la question du sujet de la tournure étonnante utilisée en Ex 14, 20 (הלילה ויאר אח), il y a lieu de tenir compte des nombreux parallèles avec Gen. 1 qui se trouvent dans le contexte immédiat de ce verset. Le sujet de la phrase est »l'Ange de Dieu«, c-à-d. Yahvé lui-même. Par analogie avec la création de la lumière, l'événement est compris comme un acte créateur fondamental et fait ainsi partie des actes salvateurs (cf. Ex 14, 13).
Bei der Lösung der Frage nach dem Subjekt der auffälligen Wendung in Ex 14,20 (הלילה ויאר אח) sind die im Nahkontext dieses Verses gehäuft auftretenden Parallelen zu Gen 1 zu beachten. Subjekt ist »der Bote (des) Gottes«, d.i. JHWH selbst. Der Vorgang wird analog zur Erschaffung des Lichts als grundlegende Schöpfungstat verstanden und ist Teil des göttlichen Rettunghandelns (vgl. Ex 14,13).
