Zu den Wallringen von Corneşti-Iarcuri, Jud. Timiş, Rumänien – Forschungsgeschichte und neueste Untersuchungen

Im westlichen Rumänien, in den weiten Ebenen des Banats nördlich von Timişoara, liegt die befestigte prähistorische Siedlung Corneşti-Iarcuri. Sie weist vier Wallringe mit Grabenanlagen auf. Der innere Ring hat einen Durchmesser von ca. 1 km, der äußere von etwa 6 km. Insgesamt wird eine Fläche von ungefähr 1722 ha umfasst. Erste Grabungen fanden in den Jahren 1933 und 1939 statt, deren Ergebnisse jedoch nicht publiziert worden sind. Im Herbst 2007 wurde von Mitarbeitern der Johann Wolfgang Goethe-Universität Frankfurt am Main, vom Banater Museum in Timişoara und von der University of Exeter eine Sondagegrabung im Siedlungsinneren durchgeführt, wobei eine früheisenzeitliche Kulturschicht festgestellt wurde. Dennoch ist eine genaue Datierung der Gesamtanlage bis heute nicht gelungen. Auch aus diesem Grund werden die oben genannten Institutionen in den kommenden Jahren weiter reichende Grabungen und Untersuchungen vor Ort durchführen.

L'habitat fortifié préhistorique de Corneşti-Iarcuri se situe en Roumanie occidentale dans les vastes plaines du Banat, au nord de Timişoara. Elle présente quatre enceintes avec fossés. L'enceinte située à l'intérieur a un diamètre d'environ 1 km, l'enceinte extérieure un diamètre de près de 6 km. La surface totale ainsi délimitée atteint environ 1722 ha. Les premières fouilles furent menées en 1933 et 1939, mais les résultats ne furent jamais publiés. En automne 2007, des collaborateurs de la Johann Wolfgang Goethe-Universität de Francfort-sur-le-Main, du Musée du Banat de Timişoara et de l'University of Exeter firent des sondages à l'intérieur de l'habitat et constatèrent la présence d'une couche du début de l'âge du Fer. Mais les tentatives de dater ce dispositif avec précision sont restées sans succès. C'est pourquoi les institutions mentionnées plus haut vont mener des fouilles et des investigations approfondies sur place ces prochaines années.

In western Romania, in the wide plains of the Banat north of Timişoara, there lies the enclosed prehistoric settlement of Corneşti-Iarcuri. It has four wall rings with ditched enclosures. The inner ring has a diameter of about 1 km; the outer one, about 6 km. In total, it encompasses an area of some 1,722 ha. First excavations took place in 1933 and 1939, but the findings were not published. In autumn 2007, researchers from the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt/Main, the Banat Museum in Timişoara and the University of Exeter carried out a sondage excavation within the settlement, uncovering a cultural layer dating to the Early Iron Age. Nevertheless, it has not been possible to precisely date the total enclosure until now. For this reason, among others, the above-mentioned institutions will conduct further excavations and investigations on site in the coming years.
