Noch einmal: das »gemiedene Thema«. Zur literarischen Reflexion auf Flucht und Vertreibung 1945/46

Der Beitrag befaßt sich mit Günter Grass' im Jahr 2002 erschienener Novelle Im Krebsgang. Grass thematisiert in gesellschaftskritischer Perspektive, dabei satirisch zugespitzt, die Folgen, die das Ausbleiben einer Geschichtserzählung über ›Flucht und Vertreibung 1945/46« im Deutschland der 1990er Jahre zeitigt. Die Novelle wird mit Blick auf eine Literaturgeschichte von ›Flucht und Vertreibung‹ analysiert; Referenzpunkte sind Debatten der 90er Jahre – W. G. Sebald und der polnische Autor Stefan Chwin – und Christa Wolfs Roman Kindheitsmuster (1976/77). In der Konfrontation mit Wolfs Ansatz der Rekonstruktion historischer Ereignisse im Kontext einer Befragung der Gegenwart gewinnt Grass' literarische Reflexion auf die Wirklichkeit von Geschichte, d. h. auf deren andauernde Wirksamkeit, deutliche Kontur.

The paper deals with Günter Grass's novella Im Krebsgang from the year 2002. Writing from a socio-critical perspective, Grass takes a satirical approach to the consequences of the lack of historical narrative on flight and expulsion during the 1990s in Germany. The novella is analysed within the context of a literary history of flight and expulsion. Reference points are debates carried out in the 1990s by W. G. Sebald and the Polish author Stefan Chwin, as well as Christa Wolf's novel Kindheitsmuster (1976/77). A confrontation of Grass's novella with Wolf's method of reconstructing historical events within the context of an examination of the present offers new insight into Grass's literary reflection on the reality of history and its lasting effects.
