New Research Trends in Language Education: An introduction

  • Rining Tony Wei

    Rining (Tony) Wei is a tenured associate professor in Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University, China’s largest Sino-foreign institution. He has supervised nearly 50 master’s and PhD dissertations to successful completion, which cover three areas: English education, bilingualism, and English for academic purposes (EAP). He serves as Co-Editor-in-Chief of International Journal of EAP: Research and Practice. He also serves on the editorial boards of international journals including Studies in Second Language Acquisition and The Journal of Asia TEFL.

    and Peter I. De Costa

    Peter I. De Costa is a professor in the Department of Linguistics, Languages & Cultures and the Department of Teacher Education at Michigan State University, where he directs the Master’s in TESOL programme in the College of Arts & Letters. He is also the English as a Second Language (ESL) graduate director in the College of Education. As a critical applied linguist, his research areas include emotions, identity, ideology and ethics in language learning, language teaching, and language policy. In addition, his ecologically- and social justice-oriented work looks at the intersection between second language acquisition (SLA), second language teacher education (SLTE), and language policy. He is the co-editor of TESOL Quarterly and the President Elect of the American Association for Applied Linguistics.
