Welcher Stellenwert kommt der Frage nach der Rückkehr in die ›Heimat‹ innerhalb der Interkulturalitätsproblematik zu? Das ist der Ausgangspunkt der Studie, deren Gegenstand die Literatur der so genannten ›zweiten Generation‹ nordafrikanischer Einwanderung in Frankreich ist. Die Annäherung an den Mythos der Rückkehr erfolgt über die sozio-historischen Bedingungen der Migration und theoretische Aspekte wie Fremdheitserfahrung, Identitäts- und Gedächtnisproblematik. Die Autorin entwickelt zwei sich ergänzende Ansätze: die doppelte Abwesenheit und die doppelte Anwesenheit, um das komplexe und hoch brisante Phänomen der Migration beispielhaft an Texten von Azouz Begag, Tahar Ben-Jelloun, Leïla Sebbar u.a. zu entschlüsseln.
