Soil Pollution and Remediation
This chapter is in the book Soil Pollution and Remediation

Abstract

This chapter discusses the presence and impact of potentially toxic elements (PTEs) in the environment, particularly in relation to mining activities. It highlights the sources of PTEs, such as natural processes and human activities, and the potential health risks associated with their contamination of soil, water, and air. It also explores the specific effects of PTEs such as arsenic, cadmium, mercury, lead, antimony, selenium, and thallium on human health, including the development of various cancers and neurological disorders. The importance of implementing strategies to mitigate PTE contamination and protect human, plant, and animal health is emphasized.
