This chapter is in the book 3D Printing Technologies

Abstract

3D printing has seen a significant surge in the past few years, leading to a wide spectrum of innovative real-world applications in various fields, including biomedical, construction, industrial and space exploration. 3D printing has enabled the production of lightweight and intricate parts for space exploration resulting in cost savings and increased efficiency. It has also enabled the creation of customized prosthetic limbs and soft robotic structures that replicate the behavior of an actual heart. Apart from this, it can revolutionize the way emergency homes and low-cost housing are built. This chapter provides a comprehensive review of the latest advancements in the field of 3D printing and its novel uses in different fields. The chapter delves into the application of 3D printing in biomedical, construction and space exploration applications. The existing research, deployed projects, as well as case studies are reviewed. The analysis done in this chapter shows that 3D printing has remarkable potential to revolutionize various industries, and future research in this field can lead to more innovative applications in the near future.
