Abstract
The worldwide comparability of measurements requires a well-established infrastructure and cooperation across national borders. The elements of this metrological infrastructure at national, regional, and international level are described in this chapter. Along with accreditation, standardization, and conformity assessment, metrology is one of the pillars of the quality infrastructure, and thus an essential element for sustainable economic development and environmental and social well-being.
